Murray State golfer Andrea Downer was named the Pepsi Murray State Athlete of the Week after she won her first college tournament Sunday at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate in Sunset Beach, N.C.
Downer arrived at Murray State a year ago from Surrey, England and quickly established herself as the Racers' number one player. She won the Sea Trail event with rounds of 74-71-70=215, her total was one-under par. She played the last two rounds three-under par and was the only competitor in the field of 78 that finished under par.
Downer's win helped the MSU women's team to a fourth place finish out of 14 teams.
Downer's previous best finish was a fourth place showing last fall at Arkansas State, she now has six top-10 finishes in her MSU career.
