For the first time since the Pepsi-MSU Athlete of the Week award began in August, the weekly award is going to a MSU team and not an individual.
The distance medley relay team from Murray State set another school record last weekend at the Hoosier Hills Invitational hosted in Bloomington by Indiana University. It was the second time this winter that MSU has set a new record in this event.
All of the relay members are underclassmen: sophomores, Sydney Gholston and Meagan Richeson, and freshmen, Katelyn Jones and Asenath NaAman. Taylor Crawford and Brandi Williams are also underclassmen and ran on the first record-breaking team this season.
At the Indiana event last weekend, the MSU team finished the medley relay with a time of 12:11, one second better than the record-breaker two weeks before when they broke the school record (12:32) that had stood since 2006.
The medley relay consists of four different segments: 400-meters, 800-meters, 1,200-meters, and 1,600 meters.
The MSU women's track & field team competes this weekend at Southeast Missouri State before tackling the Ohio Valley Conference Championships Feb. 29-Mar. 1 at Tennessee State in Nashville.
