Guffey Named MSU-Pepsi Athlete of the Week

Senior women's basketball guard Amber Guffey has been
named the MSU-Pepsi Athlete of the Week for March 16-22 after leading Murray
State in both of the Women's National Invitation Tournament games.
Guffey tallied a team-high 19 points in the 67-65 victory
over Arkansas-Little Rock in the First Round of the WNIT, while shooting 66.7
percent (8-for-12) from the field. The
Albany, Ky., native followed that performance with 22 points in the Racers
(23-9) loss to Mississippi in the Second Round.
Guffey finished with 1,877 career
points, No. 3 all-time at Murray State. With her four assists today
Amber Guffey also moved into the No. 1 spot on the
all-time assists list with 512, one more than the previous leader Julie
Pinson.
Amber Guffey, Ashley Hayes and Paige Guffey will have their names in almost every career leader board for the
Racers. The “Big Three” have helped turn Murray State around. The Racers
finished the season with a 9-19 record the year before the trio came to
Murray and have helped the team to a 79-44 record in their four seasons on the
court in a navy and gold uniform.
