Murray State Rifle released its 2010-11 schedule featuring seven home events at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Roy Stewart Stadium.
The Racers have stacked this season's schedule with some of the best teams in the nation, including five of the top six teams from last spring's NCAA Championship.
“We are excited about this year's schedule,” said MSU Head Coach Alan Lollar. “I think our team will be ready to compete and we certainly will be seeing many of the best teams in the nation with a lot of them at our home range.”
MSU begins with a home match with UT Martin Sep. 25, before hitting the road for the Ole Miss Invitational Oct. 2. MSU hosts Jacksonville State Oct. 9, and then shoots on back-to-back days at Kentucky against the Wildcats and Army Oct. 22-23.
The Racers host last year's NCAA champion Texas Christian Oct. 30, before traveling to face West Virginia Nov. 7. The final match before the semester break is at the JSU Gamecock Invitational Nov. 20.
MSU resumes the season in 2011 by hosting three home events against Mississippi and Nebraska Jan. 15 & 17, and the 2011 Withrow Invitational Jan. 28-30 which features a talented field of schools.
“We look forward to welcoming North Carolina State for the first time to our Withrow Invitational,” Lollar added. “Along with Ohio State, Rose-Hulman, Mercer, UAB, UTM, JSU and Memphis, it will be a competitive match.”
The Racers hosted and won the Ohio Valley Conference Championship last season and hope to win it again when Jacksonville State hosts the tournament Feb. 5.
MSU is again the host of an NCAA Rifle Qualifier Feb. 12, with their season goal of making the NCAA Championships in mind when the event is staged in Columbus, Ga., March 11-12.
With the experience of finishing third in the NCAA Championship in air rifle and seventh over-all still fresh on their minds, the Racers look for a strong showing in the 2010-11 season.
“This schedule will be a challenge, but that's the way it's supposed to be,” Lollar said. “We look forward to the chance to compete against the best in the country. It only makes us better.”
The Racers have a storied rifle program that owns two NCAA Championships and 10 Ohio Valley Conference championships in the thirty year history of rifle being an NCAA sport.
