Carrico 2010-11 Statistics
Murray State senior golfer Cameron Carrico has been selected as an individual to the NCAA Regional at Zionsville, Ind., by the the NCAA D-I Men's Golf Committee.
Carrico will compete at Wolf Run Golf Club, May 19-21, one of six regional sites that will conduct a 54-hole event.
At the Indiana Regional, Carrico will be in the field of 14 teams and five other individuals. The low five teams and the low individual not on the top five teams will advance to the finals.
“I'm very proud of Cameron to make the NCAA field and basically he's competing against a field of 50 players for one spot in the NCAA Finals,” Murray State head coach Eddie Hunt said. “This is a great opportunity for him to compete again at the NCAA level and he's earned it because of the great senior season he had.”
Carrico competed at the Notre Dame regional a year ago with the Murray State team after they won the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Championship. He finished with scores of 76-76-68=220, good for a spot in 52nd place in the field of 75 players.
“I'm honored to be selected to play in the NCAA regional,” said Carrico, an Owensboro, Ky., native. “Having experienced NCAA-level golf with our team last year will help me, so I'm going to work hard to prepare for the tournament and give it my best.”
If he can win the individual title, Carrico will advance to the NCAA Golf finals May 31-June 5, at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla.
Carrico earned a spot in the regional after he turned in a stellar 2010-11 season in which he was named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year. He capped off four straight seasons of being named to the All-OVC squad by leading the league in stroke average in the 2010-11 season at 71.0, also fourth in all of NCAA D-I golf. He was fourth in the nation with a 3.96 average on par four holes and had 24 rounds of par or better in 32 rounds this season. He posted two wins and had eight top-10 finishes. Carrico started his career at MSU in 2008 with an outstanding first season that led to him being named OVC Freshman of the Year.
The Wolf Run GC course will play to a par of 71 and 7,025 yards.
The other five NCAA D-I Golf regional sites include: Colorado National GC (Erie, Col.), The Farms GC (San Diego, Calif.), Pete Dye River Course (Radford, Va.), Golden Ocala GC (Ocala, Fla.) and Omni Tucson National Resort (Tucson, Ariz.).
There are other OVC connections in NCAA golf this season. League champion Jacksonville State will compete in the Ocala regional, while league medalist Johan Ericksson of Eastern Kentucky will compete at the Indiana regional with Carrico.
The finals will be conducted May 31-June 5, at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla. Oklahoma State is the host institution for this year's championships.
