Former Racer Newcomb Has Nationwide Tour Experience

His Thursday tee time is at 1:20 p.m. central time as he plays with Stefan Wiedergruen and Scott Masters. The same threesome will tee off Friday at 8:30 a.m. If Newcomb can make the top-70 after 36 holes, he advances to the weekend.
The total purse for the News Sentinel Open is $500,000 with $90,000 going to the winner.
The event was started in 1990 and was known as the Knoxville Open for many years.
Newcomb played for the Racers from 2007-10 and was a multiple All-Ohio Valley Conference pick and was a two-time winner of the OVC Championship. His performance in the spring of 2010 helped the Racers make their first appearance in the NCAA Championship.
Newcomb's brother Patrick, is a junior for the Murray State team.
Round 2: Newcomb was one of the hottest players at the Fox Den Country Club course when he played a stretch of 10 holes (7 through 16) 6-under-par. He finished with a 67 which was one of the best rounds of the morning groups. When he was finished, Newcomb had moved to 73rd place, hoping to get into the top-70 thus making the cut to play on the weekend. Newcomb's scores were 74-67=141 and he missed the cut by two shots.

Newcomb, from Benton, Ky., qualified for the event Monday when he carded a 5-under-par 66 and became one of 14 players to earn their way into the event at Fox Den Country Club.
