After putting his name atop the Murray State, Ohio Valley Conference and NCAA record books, junior quarterback Casey Brockman was selected as the adidas OVC Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Sunday.
Brockman (Murray, Ky.) led the Racers to a 58-27 victory over Tennessee State by going 45-for-67 for 600 yards and seven touchdowns. He also caught a 15-yard touchdown pass. Brockman set an FCS record by passing for 422 yards in the first half, while also becoming just the fifth quarterback to throw for 600 yards in a game.
He set new MSU single-game records for attempts, completions and yards, while tieing the record for touchdowns. All four records were set by Brockman last season. He also set an OVC record for completions and yards.
Brockman got off to a quick start in the first quarter by going 15-for-19 for 229 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The second quarter saw Brockman throw for 193 yards and three touchdowns, while catching a 15-yard touchdown. He came out in the second half and threw a touchdown pass in each of the final two quarters.
Brockman has now thrown for over 300 yards five times in nine starts, and has also thrown multiple touchdown passes in five different games.
