Powell and Brockman Earn Associated Press All-America Honors

The postseason recognition continues for a pair of Racers as the Associated Press handed out their All-America honors Wednesday afternoon. Junior wide receiver/kick returner Walter Powell was a first-team selection as an all-purpose runner, while senior quarterback Casey Brockman was selected to the second team.
It marked the fifth-straight season the Racers have had an All-America selection from the AP. Linebacker Nathan Williams was a first-team selection in 2008, while defensive end Austen Lane was a third-team selection in 2008, and a first-team selection in 2009. Wide receiver Marcus Harris was honored as a second-team selection in 2010, while Brockman took home third-team honors in 2011.
Powell (St. Louis, Mo.) who was tabbed as a First-Team All-America by The Sports Network on Monday, finished the 2012 season with 2,123 all-purpose yards. His 193 all-purpose yards per game rank second in the FCS.
As a receiver, Powell set new school records with 94 catches for 1,213 yards, while becoming just the fourth player to catch 10 touchdown passes in a season. His six 100-yard receiving games also set a new record. Powell ranks fourth in the FCS in receptions per game and 9th in receiving yards per game.
As a returner, Powell averaged 26.3 yards per kickoff return (5th in FCS), and 15.8 yards per punt return(17th in FCS). Powell set an FCS record when her returned a punt 100 yards for a touchdown in the victory over Southeast Missouri. He also returned a punt 71 yards for a touchdown in the victory over Tennessee Tech.
Brockman (Murray, Ky.) also earned his second All-America honor of the week after being tabbed a third-team selection by TSN. He closed out his record-setting career by putting his name atop every single game, single season and career passing record at MSU.
He finished his final season by going 359-for-517 for 3,729 yards and 28 touchdowns. He also rushed for seven touchdowns. Brockman leads the OVC in attempts, completions, yards and total offense, setting new single-season records in all categories. He threw for at least 300 yards in eight games this season, including four games over 400 yards.
On the national scene, Brockman leads the FCS in completions and completions per game (32.64), ranks second in total offense per game (345.64) and completion percentage (69.44), third in passing yards and fourth in points accounted for per game (19.45).
The duo helped the Racers lead the OVC and rank in the top five nationally in passing offense, total offense and scoring offense for the third-straight season.
