Construction on the new men's and women's basketball practice facility and office suites officially got underway this week on the campus of Murray State University. When completed, the facility will not only provide state-of-the-art practice space, but also house the men's and women's coaches, their administrative assistants, and their operations directors.
“This is an exciting time for Racer basketball,” MSU Director of Athletics Allen Ward said. “A lot of incredible things have happened for Racer basketball this season, and the start of construction on their new facility just adds to the list”.
Earlier this week, Pinnacle, Inc. (Benton, Ky.) was chosen as the general contractor for the project. Dennis W. Smith is the President of Pinnacle with Craig Schwettman serving as Vice President. “We're honored to partner with the university once again and excited to be part of such a visible project linked with Racer basketball,” Smith said.
“I'm pleased that Pinnacle has been chosen as the general contractor for the project,” Ward added. “They've done excellent work on our campus and the practice facility is in good hands with Dennis and Craig leading the way.”
MSU Chief Facilities Officer Kim Oatman, and David Brickeen Assistant Director of Facilities Design and Construction, will serve in the lead role for the university. “Kim and David are great at their jobs and will ensure the project goes smoothly,” said Ward. “They're a big part of our success here at Murray.”
Head Men's Basketball Coach Steve Prohm echoes Ward's enthusiasm as the project gets underway. “This is a big day for Racer Basketball”, said Prohm. “I talk often about taking this program to another level and this facility will play a big part of us getting to where we want to go.”
“The CFSB Center is great facility”, added Rob Cross, Head Women's Basketball Coach. “Shelley Todd and her staff do a great job and give us priority in the main arena, but this new addition will provide our teams with 24/7 access to a top-notch facility when the main arena floor isn't available.”
Construction photos and updates will be posted online at goracers.com.
All media requests related to the new practice facility should be coordinated through the Athletic Media Relations office
