The 2011-12 season is one that will go down in Murray State history as its greatest. An OVC record winning streak of 23 straight also doubled as a record start to the season and along the way, MSU enjoyed their first top-10 national rankings. MSU also became the first team in 87 years of their program to go undefeated on the road where they wer 13-0 and were the only team in the country to do it. The Racers are the Ohio Valley Conference regular season champion for the third straight time and 23rd time overall. They won the OVC Tournament for the 15th time and are making their third straight post-season appearance after going to the NIT last season.
MSU's Isaiah Canaan has already earned national notoriety with an outstanding season as the junior from Biloxi, Miss., is being considered for all of the major awards including being a top-5 finalist for the Bob Cousy Award. Canaan was named Sporting News First Team All-America and USBWA named him to their All-America second team.
Coach Steve Prohm has put his name into the record books as well for the one of the best starts for a rookie head coach. In MSU lore, Prohm is the eighth straight MSU coach to win an OVC regular season championship. He is also the fifth MSU rookie coach to win the OVC Tournament. Prohm can also become the third MSU coach to win a game in the NCAA Tournament like Steve Newton (1988) and Billy Kennedy (2010) have done before him.
