Work of Art Loader Delivered To Practice Facility Work Site

A special piece of construction equipment was delivered to the work site Monday for Murray State's basketball practice facility in Murray, Ky.
As MSU Athletics anticipates the completion of the practice facility that will connect to the CFSB Center, a specially MSU-themed skid-steer loader was delivered to the work site.
However, this not an ordinary skid-steer loader.
Jim Defew of Defew's Custom Painting and Body Shop in Benton, Ky., has created a work of art that will get a lot of work done.
Defew said he spent about three weeks working on the project in making this skid-steer loader uniquely Murray State. It has navy and gold flames and a fire breathing Racer horse. The phrases “I'm a Racer and I know It” and “Hottest team in town” make for a nice touch and the skid-steer loader is signed by MSU men's basketball coach Steve Prohm and MSU football coach Chris Hatcher.
“It is quite an honor for me to be associated with Murray State,” artist Defew said. “We worked about three weeks on the project from start to finish.”
The delivery of the skid-steer loader gave everyone pause to take notice of the construction that continued close by at the work site for MSU's basketball practice facility. Construction began in February and has made steady progress into the summer.
“When you look at what Murray State is going to be able to do with a facility like this to elevate the basketball program nationally, it is really phenomenal,” MSU President Dr. Randy Dunn said. “I'm just really proud to be part of it.”
“It has been a lot of fun to see the building coming up,” MSU Director of Athletics Allen Ward said. “We've got so many good people we've been working with on this project and they're right on schedule with it.”
Dennis Smith, president of Pinnacle Inc. General Contractor said he's glad to have his company (in which many are MSU graduates) involved with such an important project.
“To help build on the excitement that the university has experienced through the football and basketball programs recently, it's a natural fit and the thing for us to do at this time.” Smith said.
Current MSU basketball student-athletes Isaiah Canaan and Ed Daniel were on hand to pose for a few photos and welcome those in attendance.
For the time being the MSU skid-steer loader that was delivered by Greg McKeel of McKeel Equipment Co., is being displayed just outside the front entrance to the CFSB Center.
The practice facility is on schedule to be ready by January 2013.
