The Murray State Racers return home to the friendly confines of the CFSB Center Wednesday when they host the Eastern Kentucky Colonels in a 7 p.m. tip in Murray, Ky. The game matches two 2-0 teams in the Ohio Valley Conferencee and can be heard over the air on Racer Radio on WFGE 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. The OVC Digital Network will stream video.
The Racers are coming off a come-from-behind 74-66 win at Southeast Missouri State Saturday where they went on a 20-8 run starting at the 16-minute mark of the second half trailing the Redhawks by 12 points. MSU's Isaiah Canaan led the way with 28 points, 23 coming in the second half as MSU improved to 2-0 in the early OVC race.
Ed Daniel added his eighth double-double this season with 15 points and 17 rebounds. His 10 offensive rebounds was just off the MSU record of 12 that was set by the great Popeye Jones twice in a week in February of 1991. Daniel's 11.0 per game rebound average is tops in the OVC and 10th nationally.
EKU is also 2-0 in the OVC after winning a pair of home games last week over Eastern Illinois 65-54 and SIUE 78-72. After starting the season 9-0, the Colonels have won three of six games since.
MSU leads the all-time series with EKU 94-59 as these two original founders of the OVC have met 73 times in Murray, Ky., with MSU taking 52 including the last four since EKU's last win in 2008.
MSU's All-America Isaiah Canaan set the MSU all-time record for made three-point baskets with at SEMO on Saturday, he now has 254 treys. Frank Allen, who played for MSU 1989-93, had the old record of 251 that stood for 18 seasons. Canaan is 326 points from career 2,000, his school-record for consecutive games with a made three-point basket is 24 entering the EKU game.
After the EKU contest, MSU hits the road again to play at Austin Peay Saturday (Jan. 12) in a game that will be televised on the Racer TV Network and ESPN3.
