Softball Shines Under Lights at Racer Field

The Murray State softball team continued its hot hitting fall season Friday, as it topped Kentucky Wesleyan, 7-0 and 7-3, under the lights at Racer Field in Murray.
The Racers scored a combined 14 runs on 19 hits in the doubleheader, while limiting Kentucky Wesleyan to just three runs on 14 hits. Over its six fall games, MSU has outhit its opponents 71-31 and has outscored them 50-8.
In game one, the Racers scored early and never let up, tallying two in the first, one in the second and four in the third. Alexa Becker and Jocelynn Rogers each finished the contest by going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Both of Becker's hits went for extra bases including a double and the first of two Murray State home runs on the night.
Mason Robinson picked up her first win of the fall in the game by allowing two hits over four innings with two strikeouts. Leslie Bridges entered in the top of the fifth and did not allow a hit over the final three innings for the he second save.
In game two, the Racers struggled early out of the gate and even fell behind 1-0 in the first inning. Murray State went on to score three runs in the second, beginning with a Leslie Bridges solo home run, only to have the Panthers plate two in the fourth to tie the game at three.
However, in the top of the fourth CheyAnne Gaskey entered the game and completely shut Kentucky Wesleyan down. She allowed just one hit over the final three innings and struck out six of the nine batters she faced, to move her fall record to 3-0. In the bottom of the fifth, the Racers added four runs on five hits to seal the victory at 7-3.
Maggie Glass and Shelby Miller each turned in perfect performances in the game by going 2-for-2 with a run and a RBI. Bridges also tallied two hits in the contest, to go along with two runs and a RBI of her own.
The Racers will close out their fall schedule Sunday when they host Lake Land. Game times for the doubleheader are set for Noon and 2 p.m.
