Murray State track & field junior sprinter Sharda Bettis has been named the Murray State Pepsi Athlete of the Week for her performance at last weekend's Hilltopper Relays hosted by Western Kentucky.
Bettis set the school record in the 100-meter hurdles, running a personal-best time of 13.72 on Saturday and placed second. Bettis followed that performance up with a second place finish in the 400 hurdles. Her time in that event is the third-fastest time in MSU history and set a new career-best with a time of 1:01.78.
Bettis and the rest of the Racers travel to Oxford, Miss., this weekend for the Ole Miss Open. It will be the Racers' second-to-last event before the OVC Outdoor Championships May 3-4 hosted by Eastern Illinois.
