Ashley Canty was named First Team All-OVC Tennis and Megan Blue and Carla Suga received second team honors Thursday night at the OVC tennis banquet held in Paducah.
Canty, who played at number one singles and doubles, compiled a singles record of 7-3 in OVC play this season and went 4-3 in doubles action, becomes the fourth Racer to be selected all-conference all four seasons at Murray State. Canty joins Cheryl Graham (2003), Jaclyn Leeper (2005) and Anna Lask (2007) in the exclusive club. Canty's first team selection is the second of her career. Canty was named to the first team following the 2011 season.
Carla Suga makes it onto the second team for the second consecutive season. Suga, who played at number two for both singles and doubles, went 9-1 in league play in singles this season and is currently on an eight-match winning-streak. In doubles action, Suga went 7-1 in the OVC and has won her last five matches.
Suga's doubles partner, Megan Blue went 8-0 this season at number three singles during her freshman season. Blue becomes the first Racer freshman since Canty in 2010 to be named all-OVC. Blue was also the only player in the conference to win an individual match against Eastern Kentucky this season. Blue, who won 15 of her 16 total matches during league play this season, compiled the best winning percentage (93.7) of anyone outside of EKU.
Amandine Faouzi of EKU took home Player of the Year honors. SIU Edwardsville's Monique Krutak was named Freshman of the Year, while EKU head coach Rob Oertel was named Coach of the Year.
The Racers, who are the three seed in this weekend's OVC Tournament, begin first round action Friday morning as they will face sixth-seeded Belmont at 10 at the Lone Oak Tennis Center in Paducah.
