The Murray State women's tennis team's season came to an end Friday as the third-seeded Racers fell to the No. 6 seed Belmont 4-3 in the first round of the OVC Tournament held at the Lone Oak Tennis Center in Paducah.
The doubles point proved to be the deciding factor in the match as the two teams split the six singles matches, with Belmont winning two of the three doubles matches. At number three doubles, the team of Erin Patton and Suzaan Stoltz grabbed the Racers' lone win in doubles play, winning 8-3.
Meanwhile, the team of Ashley Canty and Carolyn Huerth fell at number one 8-3 and at number two, the duo of Megan Blue and Carla Suga lost 8-6.
Canty would finish her career as a Racer with a win, picking up a decisive 6-0 and 6-3 win over Belmont's Nikki Maciel at number one singles. Suga and Blue both picked up 6-3, 6-1 wins in the match, winning at number two and three, respectively.
Suga finishes the season on a nine-match winning-streak in singles play. While Blue finishes her freshman campaign going a perfect 9-0 against OVC opponents.
At number four, Patton fell in a hard-fought three-set match, losing to Fabiana Mersan 6-2, 2-6 and 6-2. Huerth fell at five, 6-3 and 6-3. Suzaan Stoltz rounded-out the scores, losing 6-2, 6-4 at number six singles.
