Racer Hooplalooza moved to the golf course Friday at Murray Country Club as the fundraiser for Murray State men's basketball continued after the banquet and program from the night before.
Several former players and coaches, including former Murray State coach Mark Gottfried enjoyed a six-man scramble on a very nice weather day especially considering the weather that is usual for August.
Once the field of 14 teams completed their round, a lunch and program was held at the Murray Country Club restaurant.
The winner of the event with a score of 56 was the team of Coach Gottfried, Lindy Suiter, John Nix Purdom, Mickey Carson, Donnie Winchester and former Racer player Tyler Holloway.
The second place team was one shot back with a 55 and consisted of former Racer James Singleton, Bryan Anderson, Zach Dunlap, Matt Garrison, Jason Baker and Deron Cherry.
The third place squad had a score of 57 and was made up by, Brian Epperson, Dale Willis, Howie Crittenden, Jr., former MSU football player Shane Andrus and former Racer, Isaiah Canaan and Ron Prohm, father of current Racers' head coach Steve Prohm.
Longest Drive went to Randy Condon and Austin Grove won the prize for closest to the pin.
Tournament had 86 registered to play.
Racer Hoopalooza chose Coach Gottfried as this year's honoree.
Ready to start his third season at North Carolina State, Gottfried coached the Racers to 68 wins in three seasons from 1995-98.
The Racer Hoopalooza was a big success with a big time on Thursday at the CFSB Center for the banquet and program honoring Coach Gottfried and it rolled right into a great golf event Friday morning.
"We're really happy with the turn out we had for the Hoopalooza," said Paul Bubb, Associate AD for External Affairs. "We had several that came to the banquet and played golf and there were some who were able to attend one of the events. We're already looking forward to Racer Hoopaloozain 2014."
Dates for the 2014 Racer Hoopalooza will be confirmed at a later. The event is expected to take place August 7-9, 2014. The former Racer honoree will be announced later.
