Racer Cross Country Opens Season at Belmont Invitational

Murray State men's and women's cross country teams started their respective 2014 campaigns on Friday at the Belmont Opener in Nashville, Tenn., where both teams came out strong. The women finished eighth out of 12 teams and the men finished sixth out of 12 teams.
Individually, the women were led by Meagan Smith who finished 36th with a time of 19:02.70. She was followed by Alicyn Hester in 41st, Abbie Oliver in 56th, Emma Gilmore in 57th. Then Emani Griffin in 68th, Kati Heil in 73rd, and Emily Flaherty in 74th.
The men were led by Gavin Galanes who finished 36th with a time of 16:07.52. He was closely followed by Cole Cisneros in 43rd. Then Lucas Prather in 56th, Mark Ventura in 58th, Evan Staviski in 59th, Neil Yockey in 63rd, and Jarred Koerner in 64th.
The Racers will return to action on Sept. 5 at Eastern Illinois' Walt Crawford Open
