Athletics Homecoming Wrap-Up
10/15/2015 12:02:00 PM | Football, General
Homecoming 2015 at Murray State University was another memorable one and wasn't the weather perfect?
In the Racer Athletics department, several events were enjoyed including the opening of the Burton Family Hall of Champions. The facility has standing open periods of three hours before every home football and men's basketball game. Appointments can also be made by calling the Murray State CFSB Center at (270) 809-3000.
Here is a wrap up of the homecoming events involving Murray State Athletics.
1995-96 OVC FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS RETURN
It has been 20 years since Coach Houston Nutt and the Racers won back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference football championships and it was a great time to get the teams and coaches back on campus. There was an initial reunion time Friday evening at Roy Stewart Stadium, followed by participation in the homecoming parade Saturday morning. Coach Nutt was the guest coin tosser just before the Racers faced Austin Peay. The group was also recognized at halftime and they had a time of fellowship after that.

RACERS TAKE DOWN AUSTIN PEAY 34-18
The Racers moved their record to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in OVC play as they handled the Austin Peay Governors 34-18 in front of more than 9,000 on homecoming. The usually pass-happy Racers offered up a balanced attack with 286 yards in the air and 240 yards on the ground, the most against a Division I opponent since 2013. The Racers forced a pair of turnovers in the first half which helped them build a 31-6 lead at the break.
The Racers have this week off and return to action on Oct. 24 at rival UT Martin at 2 p.m.
BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL WELCOME BACK ALUMNI FOR SOME PLAY
It has been a wonderful tradition for both the Murray State baseball and softball teams to bring back former players each homecoming for fellowship and to actually get a bat in their hands again, or play a game of catch. The current teams each held scrimmages and then they had alumni games.
