Softball Tabbed Third In OVC Preseason Poll
1/21/2016 4:05:00 PM | Softball
The Murray State softball team was picked third in the annual OVC preseason poll, as voted on by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors, the league office announced on Thursday.
The Racers are coming off of a 2015 season in which they reached new heights, tying a school record third-place finish in the OVC regular season standings and winning a record number of overall and OVC games at 38 and 20, respectively. Murray State will return seven starters from the previous squad in 2016, including last season's OVC Player of the Year Jessica Twaddle and All-OVC first-team selection Maggie Glass
Last year's tournament champion Tennessee Tech was picked first, while Jacksonville State and the Racers, finished second and third, respectively. Murray State also received two first-place votes, while edging out the fourth place team, last year's regular season champion SIUE, by just three votes. Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Illinois, Southeast Missouri and UT Martin finished in fifth through eighth, respectively, to round out the probable OVC tournament field.
Murray State will begin its 2016 campaign Feb. 12-13 at Kennesaw State's Kick-Off Classic in Kennesaw, Georgia. While in the Peach State, the Racers will take on the host Owls, North Carolina Central, East Tennessee State and Loyola Chicago in the season opener.
