Roe’s Rio Dreams Come To An End
6/5/2016 1:01:00 PM | Rifle
Murray State rifle junior Ivan Roe did not make the final of the third day of the 2016 USA Shooting Rifle/Pistol Olympic Air Trials at Camp Perry near Port Clinton, Ohio Sunday and will not earn one of the two spots for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics.
In the preliminaries, an electronic target malfunctioned and forced the junior to moved lanes in the middle of his relay. However, after the change, the Manhattan, Montana native was unable to find his momentum once again and missed the final by just 1.5 points. Without the bonus points from the final, he was unable to hold on to second place and finished outside of the top two that earned the spots on Team USA.
Lucas Kozeniesky of North Carolina State won the event to earn the first spot on the Olympic team, while Daniel Lowe of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit took the second and final spot. It will be the first Olympics games for both shooters.
