The Murray State baseball team lost Sunday afternoon at Austin Peay in the series finale to the Governors, 19-7 in Clarksville, Tenn.

The Racers (10-10, 2-4 OVC) got most of their offensive production on the day via the long ball as Brandon Gutzler's two-run home run in the top of the first, gave MSU an early 2-0 lead and a first inning homer in all three games of the series.

MSU also got its first grand slam of the season in the fifth inning as Grant Wood hit his first career homer. Wood's homer cut the Racer deficit to 15-7 after Davis Sims doubled down the left field line earlier in the inning to score Ryan Perkins.

The Govs (13-7, 5-1 OVC) scored a run in each of the first and second innings to tie the score at 2-2 before exploding with an eight-run third and a five-run fourth to take a 15-2 lead. APSU also added four runs in the seventh.

Sims was the only Racer with more than one hit in the loss as he went 2-for-4 at the plate. Gavin Wehby led MSU with two runs on the day.

Jake Jones got the start on the mound for MSU and took the loss as he pitched 2.2 innings and allowed six earned runs on seven hits. Tyler Anderson, Nate Pianto and Alec Whaley all made relief appearances. Anderson had the best outing out of the bullpen as he went 2.1 innings and allowed just two hits while striking out a career-best five batters.

MSU returns to home action with a quick turnaround as Brescia comes to Reagan Field for a 4 p.m., contest Monday.
