Memphis Tiger Invitational Day One Recap

The Murray State women's track and field team competed in the first day of the Memphis Tiger Invitational Friday, April 27, 2018.
Long Jump
Murray State had a pair of student-athletes finish in the top-15 for the long jump. Alison Woerner placed 12th with a mark of 5.38m and Taylor McCammon placed 14th with a mark of 5.32m.
Hammer Throw
Rachel Gootee led the way for the Racers with a 17th place finish with a mark of 43.28m. Destiny Carey and Jewel Wagner were right behind her with 18th and 19th place finishes. Carey had a mark of 43.28m and Wagner had a mark of 42.66m.
Javelin
Kristen Higgins had the highest result among Racers with a mark of 36.07m. Alexus Groom was next up with a mark of 34.27m, Aubrey Main threw for 30.98m and Gootee had a mark of 24.47.
1500-Meter Run
Rebekah Priddy had the fastest time in the 1500-meter race for an 11th place finish with a time of 4:49.75. Meagan Smith posted a top-15 time of 4:53.07 for a 14th while Ida Mutai and Caroline Grogan placed 17th and 19th with times of 4:54.30 and 5:59.34.
200-Meter Dash
Tamdra Lawrence and Norma Abdur-Rafia both posted top-five times in the 200-meter dash, with Lawrence coming third with a time of 24.43 and Abdur-Rafia coming in fifth with a time of 24.80. Hilary McAdam was next up for the Racers with a time of 25.81.
5000-Meter Run
Emily Flaherty posted a top-10 time as she finished 10th with a time of 18:48.09. Amanda Parker finished 14th with a time of 19:39.66.
The second and final day of the Memphis Tiger Invitational continues Saturday as the Racers gear up for the Ohio Valley Conference outdoor championship in two weeks.
