Three Racers Set PRs To Begin The OVC Outdoor Track and Field Championship

The Murray State women's track and field team wrapped up the first day of competition in the Ohio Valley Conference 2018 outdoor track and field championship hosted by Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tennessee.
"The ladies who competed today really set the tone for the whole weekend. The multis had a great day one with 6 PRs between the two of them. It will be an exciting day two for them tomorrow. Rachel Gootee ended the season with a PR and just missed the final. The 10k ladies finished the night competing extremely hard for the team as they have all year," commented head coach Adam Kiesler after the first day of competition.
Aubrey Main and Taylor McCammon currently hold third and fourth place in the women's heptathlon after the first day.
McCammon came out to an early first place lead with a first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a PR time of 14.24, while Main finished with a time of 15.39.
Moving to the high jump, it was Main who finished second with a mark of 1.70m (5'7''), setting a new PR. McCammon finished seventh with a mark of 1.49m (4'10.5'').
In the shot put, McCammon took third with a throw of 11.65m (38' 2.75''), besting her previous PR from last year's OVC outdoor championship in Jacksonville, Alabama. Main threw for a mark of 10.69m (35' 1'') which also set a PR.
The 200-meter dash saw Main and McCammon finish fifth and sixth respectively, with Main finishing with a time of 26.06 and McCammon with a time of 26.09. Both Main and McCammon set PRs with their times.
Rachel Gootee set a PR in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.48m (145' 11'') and just barely missed out on advancing to the finals.
Meagan Smith and Caroline Grogan competed in the 10k, with Smith finishing 11th with a time of 38:41.47 and Grogan finishing with a time of 41:34.79.
