Claire Benton began working at Murray State in 1968 and retired in 1994, ultimately giving 35 wonderful years to the university. After her retirement in 1994, Benton returned and worked part-time in the athletics department from 1995 to 2003.
Benton was well known as a friendly and helpful MSU Athletics ticket manager. She was in charge of the ticket solicitors that went about the city selling tickets and then at times delivering tickets.
When Benton started at MSU, she assisted in the office of head basketball coach Cal Luther. She also worked in the office of college VP Jim Hall. Benton was a full-time colleague of five athletic directors including: Cal Luther, Johnny Reagan, Mike Dill and Mike Strickland.
Benton remarks that her colleagues in the MSU Athletics department are family and these people made the job fun and rewarding.
