May played three sports at Murray – basketball, football, and baseball. He was the most valuable basketball player in the Mississippi Valley Conference in 1929. He was captain of the 1928 team and second leading scorer of the 1927 team. As a football halfback, he scored 133 points in three years and holds the school record for the longest pass interception runback – 98 yards. (Ledger & Times, May 26, 1967)
