Racers Finish Sixth At Chattanooga

The Murray State men's golf team fired a 284 - 282 - 294 = 860 to earn sixth place yesterday at the 14-team Sonic-Chattanooga Intercollegiate at the par-71, 6,095-yard Signal Mountain Country Club course in Signal Mountain, Tenn.
The Racers were led by freshman Michael Craft, a native of Paducah, Ky., who finished with a solid 1-under-par, three-round effort of 70 - 71 - 71 = 212 and a tie for 12th place out of the field of 75 golfers.
MSU Sophomore Kyle Shirley (Fountain Run, Ky.) earned a tie for 20th after shooting a 70 - 74 - 70 = 214, while fellow sophomore Jamie Frazier (Glasgow, Ky.) finished tied for 27th with a 70 - 71 - 75 = 216.
First-year Ohio Valley Conference member Jacksonville State won the team title with a three-round total of 832, followed by host Tennessee-Chattanooga at 839 and Davidson College in third with an 845. Other OVC squads included Tennessee Tech (4th), Samford (t-9th) and Morehead State (t-9th).
Other finishers for MSU included freshman Nicholas Griffen (Hawesville, Ky.) in a tie for 44th with a 74 - 68 - 79 = 221, and sophomore Will Cox (Paducah, Ky.) in a tie for 58th with a 75 - 72 - 78 = 225.
Up next, the Racers will compete in the Southwest Missouri State Fall Invitational on Oct. 20-21 in Springfield, Mo.
