The award is the highest individual honor that can be earned by OVC student-athletes, and is given annually to three men and three women senior student-athletes for their accomplishments in both the classroom and athletic arena, and because of their leadership qualities.
"This is a great way for Lindsey to top off her career as a Racer," said fourth-year MSU soccer coach Mike Minielli. "She has been such a great person, on and off the playing field throughout her four years in our program and she is very deserving of this honor. I am extremely proud of her."
Gustafson, a native of Sioux Falls, S.D., was a four-year starter for the Racer soccer team. She was a three-time All-OVC selection, earning First Team honors in 2001 and Second Team honors in 2000 and 2002. She was also a member of the 2000 and 2001 OVC All-Tournament Team.
In the classroom, Gustafson has achieved a 3.71 grade point average while majoring in health and physical education, and has been named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll for three consecutive years.
A member of the MSU Campus Outreach Ministry program, Gustafson is active with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, works with senior citizens and serves as a volunteer coach and camp counselor with several youth organizations.
Gustafson is joined by Jacksonville State's Jennifer Brenneman, Tennessee Tech's Stephanie Ward, Eastern Kentucky's Philip Kuhl, Eastern Illinois' C.J. Weber and Austin Peay's Rhet Wierzba as the 2003-04 OVC Scholar-Athlete Award winners.
