Murray State senior wide receiver Deandre Green has been selected to play in The Football Network/Division I-AA All-Star Classic on Dec. 30 at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Green, a native of Prichard, Ala., joins MSU senior cornerback Michael Hanley, who was selected to play in the Findlay Toyota Las Vegas All-American Classic on Jan. 17, as the second Racer player to be selected for an All-Star game this year.
The All-Star Classic is recognized by 12 I-AA conferences and the I-AA Collegiate Commissioners Association, and in its inaugural year, the event has been created to provide a unique platform for I-AA student-athletes, in recognition of their achievements on the field.
"It's a great honor to be chosen to compete in this type of event," said fourth-year MSU head coach Joe Pannunzio. "Deandre's been an important part of our team over the last two years, and I'm pleased for him because he's definitely earned this selection."
The All-Star Classic will be broadcast on The Football Network nationally and on regional sports networks in various markets around the country to an estimated audience of 35 million people.
Green, who transferred to MSU from Auburn University prior to the 2002 season, leads the Racers in receiving with 52 catches for 778 yards and six touchdowns in 2003. In 2002, he earned All-OVC First Team honors after hauling in 69 catches for 1002 yards and six touchdowns.
Green, along with 17 other seniors, will close out the 2003 season tomorrow as the Racers host Tennessee State on Senior Day at Roy Stewart Stadium. MSU and TSU are set to kick things off at 1:30 p.m. CT.
