'Breds sign transfer pitcher Ociesa

Murray State Thoroughbreds head coach Rob McDonald announced the signing of Mississippi State transfer Jake Ociesa to the 2004 squad.
Ociesa (pron.: oh-CHESS-ah) is a 6-5, 230-pound left-handed pitcher who comes to Murray State as a redshirt sophomore. A native of Englewood, Fla., Ociesa appeared in three games last season with the Bulldogs, with opposing hitters batting .250 against him.
In two seasons of varsity baseball at Lemon Bay High School, he compiled an 11-5 record with 117 strikeouts and a 3.17 earned-run average. In his senior season, he went 7-4 with a 2.80 ERA. In AAU play in 1999, he went 8-1 with an 0.66 ERA with the Manatee Titans. He redshirted the 2002 season at Mississippi State.
"Jake is a big, powerful left-handed pitcher who has great potential," McDonald said. "We feel frotunate to get another quality left-hander to work with Coach (Paul) Wyczawski."
Murray State opens its season on Feb. 20 at Alabama-Birmingham.
