MSU Wins Women's Varsity Eights At Fifth Annual Racer Regatta

The Murray State women's rowing team won the varsity eights for the second-straight year while also earning three second-place finishes at the 2003 Racer Regatta at KenLake State Resort Park in Aurora, Ky.
The varsity eights, the most coveted event at the Racer Regatta, was taken by the Racers' after covering the 1,600-meter course in six minutes, 40.15 seconds. Vanderbilt University, which finished the race ahead of MSU, was disqualified for leaving its lane during the first 500 meters, while Xavier University was second with a time of 6:47.70.
"I'm proud of my girls for their effort today and it's a great feeling to win the varsity eights at our own regatta for the second-straight year," said MSU head coach Jenny Hengehold. "The entire day was a lot of fun for our team, and we really appreciate all the support we got from our fans. I hope everyone enjoyed the Racer Regatta."
MSU earned runner-up finishes in the novice eights (7:01.82), varsity fours (7:10.75) and novice fours (7:32.87). MSU also won the mixed fours with a time of 6:55.28, well ahead of Southern Methodist's 7:24.03.
On the men's side, the University of Cincinnati dominated the action earning first-place honors in all four categories. The Bearcats won every heat and final it competed in during the day.
The MSU women's rowing team will next compete in St. Louis, Mo., on Sunday, April 13.
