Lady Racers Host Best Camp In Years

The Murray State Lady Racers, under the direction of first-year head coach Joi Williams, hosted its best camp in many years, as more than 100 campers in grades 3 through 12 attended at MSU's Regional Special Events Center on June 23-26.
The attendance was deemed the largest for a Lady Racer camp since former coach Bud Childers hosted camps in the late 1980s.
The camp was run by the current coaching staff and several players returning to the 2003-04 squad. Campers were taught several fundamentals of the game, including defense, shooting drills and strategies.
"The increased enrollment this year emphasizes the excitement that Coach Joi Williams has brought to our program as well as the increased interest in Murray State women's basketball in this area," Cross said. "We are looking forward to having more camps -- even bigger and better -- in the future."
Cross said that the coaching staff and Lady Racers enjoyed working the camps as much as the campers enjoyed participating.
"It really was a pleasure to work with all of our campers this year," he said. "We hope they all come back and bring a friend next year."
The Lady Racers open their 2003-04 schedule on Nov. 8 with a home exhibition game against the St. Louis Gold Stars. Murray State opens its regular-season schedule on Nov. 21 at the Marshall Classic.
