Murray State women's golfer Ashley Kelbough became the fourth Lady Racer golfer to earn a spot on the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team when the 2003 team was announced last week by the NGCA.
Kelbough, a junior-to-be from Victoria, Canada, joins former Lady Racers Jessica Widman (1998-00), Megan Rees (2001-02) and Kristin Margherio as past members of the All-American Scholar Team. Murray State has placed a
student-athlete on the prestigious team for six straight years.
"I'm very proud of Ashley for her dedication and performance in the classroom," said Lady Racer head coach Velvet Milkman. "She's a tremendous young lady and a talented student and golfer."
Kelbough, an outdoor recreation major, was among 297 women's collegiate golfers who were selected to the prestigious team. The criteria for selection on the NGCA All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at last 66 percent of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
A transfer from the University of Victoria in Victoria, Canada, Kelbough had a solid first season with the Lady Racers. Her best finish was a tie for 10th at MSU's Lady Racer Classic.
