Racers Shoot Low Round Of Tourney, Finish Second At EKU Colonel Classic

The Murray State men's golf team opened the Eastern Kentucky University Colonel Classic with the low round of the event and finished tied for second overall after the final round was cancelled due to rain this weekend at the par-72, 6,638-yard Arlington Golf Club in Richmond, Ky.
The Racers shot a 279 - 291 = 570, just five shots behind the host Colonels and tied with Morehead State. Fellow Ohio Valley Conference member Southeast Missouri State finished eighth (300 - 306 = 606) in the 11-team event.
Freshman Michael Craft (Paducah, Ky.) led the way for the Racers with a 3-under par score of 67 - 74 = 141, good for a tie for fourth in the field of 68 golfers.
Sophomore Kyle Shirley (Fountain Run, Ky.) shot a 71 - 71 = 142 and freshman Nicholas Griffen (Hawesville, Ky.) shot a 69 - 73 = 142 to tie for sixth overall.
Sophomore Jamie Frazier (Glasgow, Ky.) shot a 72 - 74 = 146 to tie for 16th, while sophomore Will Cox (Paducah, Ky.) shot a 79 - 73 = 152 to tie for 38th.
MSU will return to action on Oct. 13-14 at the Sonic/UTC Fall Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn.
