Freshman defensive back Derrick Parrott was named Ohio Valley Conference Football Newcomer of the Week, according to a release issued by the conference today.

Parrott, a 6-1, 190-pound defensive back from Mayfield, Ky., had four kickoff returns for a total of 125 yards, with the longest being a 63-yarder, in Murray State's 24-21 win against Samford on Saturday.

Murray State visits Eastern Illinois this Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
