The Racers (7-8-0, 4-2-0 OVC) mark their third appearance in the OVC Championship in their brief five-year history, the first since the 2001 season. This year's four OVC wins is the most league wins in a single season for the Racers.
Murray State has won six of its last nine games.
This afternoon in Cape Girardeau, Mo., the Otahkians (8-4-2, 3-2-2 OVC) outshot Murray State 25-9, with a 15-4 shot advantage in the second half alone, when MSU sophomore goalkeeper Annie Fortier (5-5-0, 4-2-0 OVC) turned away eight of her 14 saves and notched her second shutout of the season.
With 1:56 left in the second and final overtime, Wolfe took a pass from sophomore forward Lacey Latimer in the right side of the box and punched it home for her fourth goal of the season. The win was the first for Murray State at Southeast Missouri State.
Samford (6-1-1 OVC) and Eastern Illinois (5-1-1) have already clinched berths into the OVC Championship. Murray State is in third place at 4-2-0, followed by Jacksonville State and SEMO at 3-2-2, Morehead State at 3-3-0, Tennessee Tech at 1-3-2, Austin Peay at 0-5-1 and Tennessee-Martin at 0-6-0.
In OVC standings, teams receive three points for a win and one point for a tie.
OVC SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP: The OVC Championship begins on Nov. 2, with the No. 3 seed hosting the No. 6 seed and the No. 4 seed hosting the No. 5 seed. The semifinals and finals will be held at the top-seeded team on Nov. 5 and 7. The top two seeds will face the quarterfinal winners on Nov. 5, with the finals featuring the semifinal winners.
The OVC Championship expanded to a six-team format this season after being a four-team tournament in 2001, 2002 and 2003. The tournament began in 1999 as a six-team tournament, and that format was kept in the 2000 season.
Murray State began its varsity soccer program in 2000, taking part in the 2000 and 2001 tournaments. The Racers were the No. 3 seed in 2000 and the No. 4 seed in 2001.
