At the end of the OVC regular-season schedule, Jacksonville State and SEMO had tied for fifth with equal records of 3-3-2, and they played to a 0-0 tie in their only meeting of the season. OVC tie-breaking rules then require a comparison of results against the No. 1-seeded team, then the No. 2 seed and so on. Both teams had lost to No. 1 seed Samford, but Jacksonville State had beaten No. 2 seed Eastern Illinois, and so earned the No. 5 seed, giving the Otahkians the No. 6 seed.
In the quarterfinal round on Nov. 2, the Racers (7-9-1, 4-3-1 OVC) will host Southeast Missouri State (9-5-2, 3-3-2 OVC) and No. 4 Morehead State (9-7-1, 4-4-0 OVC) will host Jacksonville State (6-9-3, 3-3-2 OVC), while Samford (9-5-1, 7-1-0 OVC) and Eastern Illinois (10-5-2, 6-1-1 OVC) each get a bye.
Samford will then host the semifinal and final round of the tournament at Bulldog Field in Birmingham, Ala. In the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 5, Samford will host the winner of the Murray State-SEMO game, while Eastern Illinois will play the winner of the Morehead State-Jacksonville State contest. On Sunday, Nov. 7, the championship game will be played between the semifinal winners.
The tournament is sponsored by O'Reilly Auto Parts, a new corporate sponsor of OVC athletics.
