Murray State Lady Racers head coach Joi Felton announced the signing of three players for the 2005-06 season.
Signed by Murray State were:
JESSICA JACKSON, 5-10, G, Radcliff, Ky.
Jackson, a senior at John Hardin High School, was ranked as the seventh-best senior in Kentucky, according to a compilation of recruiting services. She averaged 16 points and eight rebounds per game last season and was named all-region and all-district.
"Jessica is very athletic, a versatile guard who will help us with her overall speed and quickness," Felton said. "We look forward to her coming in and complementing the other guards that we have."
DeERICA JONES, 5-9, G/F, Hopkinsville, Ky.
Jones, a sophomore at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College, was a high school teammate of current Lady Racer Shaleea Petty at Christian County High School, bolstering the Lady Colonels to back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances. Last season, she helped Southeastern Illinois Junior College to an national tournament appearance. In her senior season at CCHS, she averaged 11.6 rebounds per game, and currently averages 7.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists per contest at Hutchinson, shooting 46.5 percent from the field.
"DeErica is a very strong athlete," Felton said. "She will help improve our presence in the paint. She is a hard-working player who plays very well around the basket and has good rebounding instincts."
LATISHA REID, 6-0, F, Miami, Fla.
Reid, a senior at Sunset High School, averaged 13 points, 13.5 rebounds and four blocked shots per game last season.
"Latisha will also help our presence in the paint," Felton said. "She's athletic, very physical and does a great job on the boards. She also has three-point shooting range and shoots well from the perimeter.
"I'm very excited about signing these three young ladies to our program. It definitely helps our athleticism as well as our depth."
Murray State hosts UNC Charlotte tonight (Wednesday) at 7 p.m. at MSU's Regional Special Events Center. That game can be heard locally on WNBS (1340 AM, Murray) or through the Teamline link at www.GoRacers.com.
