Korir Wins 5,000-Meter Run As Racers Finish Sixth At OVC Indoor's

Freshman distance runner Wesley Korir earned first-place honors in the 5,000-meter run as the Murray State men's track and field team closed out the indoor season with a sixth-place finish at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships hosted by Eastern Illinois University at Lantz Fieldhouse in Charleston, Ill.
The host Panthers won the event with 203 points and were followed by Southeast Missouri in second with 123 points, Eastern Kentucky in third with 116 points, Tennessee State in fourth with 61 points, Samford in fifth with 47 points, MSU in sixth with 45 points and Morehead State in seventh with 24 points.
Korir, who won the 5,000-meter event with a time 14 minutes, 55.89 seconds, also earned a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:37.48 and a ninth-place finish in the Mile run with a time of 4:28.13.
Other top-10 finishers for the Racers were:

Elrington, seventh, triple jump, 42-11.00; Chris Hobbs, sixth, high jump, 6-01.50; Brian Edwards, eighth, pole vault, 13-05.25; Chris Champion, eighth, shot put, 43-01.50; Garrett Middleton, third, weight throw, 51-04.25; Chris Champion, sixth, weight throw,45-08.50; 4x400-meter relay team (O.J Elrington, David Claybrooks, Brandon Manning, Ryan Stichter), seventh, 3:36.49; Distance Medley relay team (Patrick Hammond, David Claybrooks, Ryan Stichter, Brandon Lancaster), sixth, 11:03.32.
