Racers Win Eagle Invitational In Florida

The Murray State men's golf team claimed two of the three single-round sub-300 scores to boost its way to a first-place finish at the Morehead State Eagle Invitational, held yesterday and today at the par-72, 6,857-yard Silver Springs Shores Country Club in Ocala, Fla.
The Racers opened with a 303 in the three-round event, then fired a tournament co-best 295 and a 296 to finish at 894. Host Morehead State was second at 914 after closing with a third-round 295, followed by Hartford at 915, Tennessee-Martin at 941 and Youngstown State at 963.
Murray State golfers Nicholas Griffen and Kyle Shirley tied for titlist honors in the 30-golfer meet at 223. Griffen equaled a single-round tournament best with a second-round 72.
Michael Craft tied for sixth at 226, while Jay Cooper was ninth at 227. Jamie Frazier tied for 10th at 230, while Will Cox tied for 17th at 237.
Murray State next takes part in the Amoco Ultimate Golf Classic, held March 22-23 in Gadsden, Ala.
