Murray State will begin spring football practice on Wednesday, March 24, according to head coach Joe Pannunzio. Wednesday will mark the first of 15 practices allowed by the NCAA during the spring semester.
"We're anxious to get after it. I think the coaches and players have been ready to get to work for a long time," said Pannunzio, who is entering his fifth season as head coach. "We didn't have the type of season we wanted last year, so we're all looking at this spring as a chance to start turning things around."
Murray State, which finished 4-8 last season, must replace six starters on offense and four starters on defense. MSU signed eight mid-year recruits in January and those players will be eligible to practice with the team this spring.
"We lost our two starting wide receivers in Deandre Green and Andrew Nowacki, so we really need the three receivers we brought in at mid-year to emerge this spring," said Pannunzio. "We have some other areas where we have to improve and, of course, you're always looking to develop depth at all positions in the spring."
Murray State will practice at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday with a morning practice or scrimmage set for Saturday each week of spring drills. MSU will wrap up spring practice on Sunday, April 18.
