With the spring season now in full speed, the Murray State women's golf team will continue its preparation for the upcoming Ohio Valley Conference Championships by hosting the Big River Telephone Company Lady Racer Classic on April 5-6 at the 6,017-yard, par-72 Frances E. Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray.
The three-round, 54-hole event will begin with the opening round on Monday at 8:30 a.m. followed by the second round that afternoon and will conclude with the final round on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. Each round will begin with a shotgun start.
MSU, which has won the last two OVC titles and five overall, will be joined in the field of 11 teams by OVC rivals Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee State, as well as Cleveland State, East Tennessee State, Evansville, IUPUI, Kentucky, Loyola of Chicago and Western Illinois.
"We're really excited about this year's Big River Telephone Company Lady Racer Classic," said MSU head coach Velvet Milkman, now in her 11th season as the Lady Racers' head coach. "We have a strong field of teams with some great golfers, and it should be a very competitive event. We're expecting two days of exciting golf."
Milkman is also very pleased to have the added support of the Big River Telephone Company, a telecommunications provider based in Cape Girardeau, Mo., for the 2004 edition of the Lady Racer Classic.
"I'm extremely happy to be teaming with the Big River Telephone Company," Milkman said. "We hope that the partnership between Lady Racer golf and the Big River Telephone Company will make this year's tournament one of the best we've hosted here at Murray State."
Fans are invited to attend the Big River Telephone Company Lady Racer Classic and admission is free for everyone.
