Murray State will pay a visit to the current capital of college basketball this fall when the Racer football team meets the University of Connecticut in September.
MSU head coach Joe Pannunzio announced on Tuesday that the Racers will face Big East member UConn on Saturday, Sept. 4 in East Hartford, Conn.
"We're very excited to get the opportunity to face UConn in the upcoming season," said Pannunzio. "They are a fast-rising program in Division I-A and will present a major challenge for our football team. At the same time, I know our kids are excited about playing the Huskies."
UConn represents the eighth Division I-A team the Racers will have faced in the last seven years, having previously played Brigham Young, Wisconsin, Middle Tennessee, Ole Miss, Minnesota, Memphis and Kentucky.
"It's a major challenge whenever you move up a level to compete, but our kids love the challenge and it benefits our program in so many ways," said Pannunzio. "Most of all, it exposes our players to big-time college football and all the excitement that goes along with it."
Pannunzio said he was still seeking an 11th game to round out the schedule. In addition to the eight Ohio Valley Conference games, the Racers will also travel to Indiana State following the game at UConn.
