Hedley, Lady Racers Lead After First Round At EKU Lady Colonel Classic

Senior Cuyler Hedley fired an opening round-low 2-under-par 70 to lead the Murray State women's golf team to a seven-shot lead after today's first round at the EKU Lady Colonel Classic at the 5,817-yard, par-72 Arlington Golf Course in Richmond, Ky.
Hedley, a native of Cobourg, Ontario, shot 35 on both the front back nine to hold a three-shot lead in the individual standings of the 54-hole event. MSU senior Nikki Orazine of Paducah, Ky., fired a 2-over-par 74 to hold third place in the field of 87 golfers.
Overall, the Racers hold a seven-shot lead over second place Tennessee Tech after firing a first-round total of 301. Xavier University sits third in the 15-team tournament after carding a 314, while host Eastern Kentucky is fourth with a 317.
Freshman Christi Baron continued her strong play of late with a first-round 77 to sit tied for 11th, while MSU newcomer Camilla Loeveid fired a 79 for a 20th-place tie. Junior's Ashley Kelbough and Santie Koch each fired 80's to finish tied for 24th and place six MSU players in the top-24.
The second round is set to begin at 8 a.m. CT on Friday with a shotgun start, while the third and final round is set for another 8 a.m. shotgun start on Saturday.
Following the EKU Lady Colonel Classic, MSU will look to defend its 2003 Ohio Valley Conference title at the 2004 OVC Championship on April 26-28 at the Country Club of Paducah (Ky.).
