Hedley, Orazine Finish First And Second As MSU Also Takes Team Title At EKU

Senior's Cuyler Hedley and Nikki Orazine grabbed the top two individual spots while the Murray State women's golf team used the low round of the day to pull away for a 23-shot victory at this weekend's EKU Lady Colonel Classic played at the 5,817-yard, par-72 Arlington Golf Course in Richmond, Ky.
The team title is the Lady Racers' second of the season, while they have now earned nine-straight top-5 finishes in 2003-04.
Hedley, a native of Cobourg, Ontario, finished with a 70 - 74 - 76 = 220 to earn her second-straight individual title. Orazine, a native of Paducah, Ky., had a 74 - 73 - 75 = 222 to finish in sole possession of second-place in the field of 87 golfers and four shots clear of third place.
Overall, MSU finished with a final round 305, the best round of the day by 15 shots, for a three-day total of 301 - 313 - 305 = 919. The Lady Racers were 23 shots clear of Ohio Valley Conference rival Tennessee Tech in second place with a 308 - 313 - 321 = 942. Host Eastern Kentucky was third in the 15-team event with a 317 - 308 - 320 = 945, while Xavier University held on to fourth with a 314 - 317 - 322 = 953.
Lady Racer junior Santie Koch finished tied for 11th after firing a 80 - 83 - 75 = 238, while freshman Christi Baron earned a tie for 17th with a 77 - 83 - 79 = 239. MSU's Julie Bennett (83 - 80 - 80 = 243) and Camilla Loeveid (79 - 86 - 78 = 243) tied for 27th to put six Lady Racer golfers in the top-27 places.
MSU will now look to defend its 2003 Ohio Valley Conference title at the 2004 OVC Championship on April 26-28 at the Country Club of Paducah (Ky.).
