Korir, Sargent Lead The Way For Racers At MSU Twilight Invitational

Murray State freshman distance runner Wesley Korir won a pair of individual titles while sophomore thrower Derek Sargent also earned a first-place finish to the lead the Racer track and field team at the MSU Twilight Invitational Saturday at Roy Stewart Stadium / Marshall Gage Track.
The event, which is MSU's final prep before next month's Ohio Valley Conference Championships, was an unscored meet.
Korir has now won five straight 5,000-meter titles dating back to his win at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships in February after winning today's event with a time of 14 minutes, 56.66 seconds. The native of Eldoret, Kenya, also won the 3,000-meter steeplechase event title with a time of 9:45.74.
Sargent, a native of Ottoville, Ohio, won the javelin throw with a distance of 53.61 meters, while junior distance runner Tim Bradley, of St. Louis, Mo., earned a third-place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:43.79.

MSU will next compete in the OVC Championships on May 7-8 hosted by Samford University in Birmingham, Ala.
