MSU Wins All Three Women's Races At 2004 Racer Regatta

The Murray State rowing team earned first-place finishes in all three women's events to sweep the 2004 Racer Regatta today at the KenLake State Resort Park in Aurora, Ky.
The Racers opened their day with a victory in the varsity fours competition as they covered the 1,700-meter course in 7 minutes, 35.9 seconds to beat out second place Northwestern State (La.) University (7:40.90) and third place Xavier University (7:50).
In the novice fours race, MSU's "A" crew covered the course with a time of 7:10.70 to finish over 30 seconds in front of second place Rhodes College (7:40.90). The Racers' "B" crew was third with a time of 8:01.60, while Northwestern State was fourth at 8:04.00.
In the final women's race of the day, MSU dominated Xavier in head-to-head competition in the varsity eights for a convincing 46-second win. The Racers covered the course with a time of 6:40.10, while the Musketeers finished at 7:26.60.
"It was really a great day and an enjoyable event," said first-year MSU head coach Bill McLean. "Everything went really well, and I thought our team did a great job today. I'm really pleased with how we performed and extremely happy we were able to win all three of our races."
On the men's side, the University of Cincinnati won all five races on the day, while the MSU club team earned a pair of third-place finishes in the varsity fours and the varsity eights.
Up next, MSU hosts Eastern Michigan University in a head-to-head meet next Saturday (April 10) at the KenLake State Resort Park in Aurora, Ky.
