Racers Take Fourth At Branson Creek

Murray State's men's golf team fired its best round of the tournament Tuesday to finish fourth in the Branson Creek Invitational in Hollister, Mo.
Murray State shot a three-round score of 303-292-290 - 885 in the 11-team tournament which was played at Branson Creek Golf Course and hosted by Southwest Missouri State. Oklahoma City won the event with an 842 and was followed by Nebraska (870), Illinois State (871), Murray State (885), SW Missouri (889), Western Illinois (891), Saint Louis (891), Northern Iowa (903), Southern Illinois (903), Bradley (918) and Creighton (945).
After two rounds MSU trailed Southwest Missouri by four strokes but fired a 6-over-par 290 on Tuesday. Sophomore Kyle Shirley led the charge for the Racers. The Fountain Run, Ky., native shot 75-71-71 - 217 to finish tied for 11th in the field of 63 golfers.
Following Shirley was freshman Michael Craft of Paducah, who finished 22nd after shooting 77-73-72 - 222. Sophomore Jamie Frazier of Glasgow shot 75-75-74 - 224 to finish tied for 27th, while Hawesville freshman Nicholas Griffin fired a 76-73-73 - 226 to finish tied for 32nd. Sophomore Jay Cooper of Forest, Ontario, rounded out the Racer scoring by shooting 80-78-73 - 231 to finish tied for 44th.
Up next, MSU will compete at the Greg Palmer Eagle Classic on April 12-13 in Morehead, Ky., before competing in the Ohio Valley Conference Championships on April 26-28 at the Country Club of Paducah (Ky.).
