NCAA Mideast Regional Championships - Day 1 Recap

Murray State senior sprinter Joan Lettman finished 13th in the preliminary round of the women's 400-meter dash, while freshman distance runner Wesley Korir had a false start in the men's 5,000-meter run earlier today at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships at LSU's Bernie Moore Track Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.
Lettman, a native of Toronto, Ontario, finished with a time of 54.69 seconds to take 13th in the field of 17 runners. Lettman earned her way to Baton Rouge after making the necessary mark on April 3 at the Gatorade Classic in Cape Girardeau, Mo., with a time of 54.59.
Korir, a native of Eldoret, Kenya, had a disappointing end to his first collegiate season with a false start and no time in tonight's 5,000-meter run. Entering the event, Korir was a perfect 6-for-6 in the 5,000, including a dominating win at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships on May 8 in Birmingham, Ala. with a time of 14:46.91.
MSU will close out the two-day event with the women's 4x400-meter relay tomorrow at 8 p.m. The Lady Racers' relay team will include Lettman, senior Chantal Curtis (Nassau, Bahamas), and freshmen LaShondra Durias and Nicole Peterson of Louisville's Iroquois High School.
