In the not-too-distant future, some U.S. troops serving in Iraq may be spotted wearing Murray State athletic apparel. Answering a request from a member of the U.S. Army, Murray State is sending a box of athletic apparel from its various sports teams to soldiers serving in Iraq.
“We didn't have to think twice about responding to this request,” said MSU director of athletics E.W. Dennison. “We often donate athletic items to different charitable groups, but I can't think of a more deserving group than the men and women serving our country in Iraq.”
Spc. Corey Perrilloux, stationed in Germany, wrote a letter to MSU assistant director of athletics Kenny Roth requesting items to distribute to the troops in his unit, which are currently in Iraq.
“He mentioned in his letter that several college and professional sports teams had sent items to the soldiers to help boost morale and relieve the stress that they are under,” said Roth, noting that the athletic department boxed up several Murray State game jerseys, T-shirts and posters and sent them to Spc. Perrilloux.
